The Moe's v. Chipotle Debate (The Chipotle v. Moe's Debate)

These two Tex-Mex chain restaurants have sparked an interesting phenomenon amongst burrito fans. People affiliate with one or the other and this preference is not taken lightly; those who prefer Chipotle refuse to set foot in Moe’s and vice-versa. It seems that one’s taste in burritos may hinge on geographical upbringing. In my limited experience those from Chipotle-laden Northern Virginia will be Chipotle patrons for life and those of us reared in the Hampton Roads area have a strong affection for Moe’s. While it makes logical sense that one is more partial to the familiar, why the general disgust toward the opposing chain? I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation from either the Moe’s or Chipotle camp. The arguments I have heard such as “Moe’s is a broke-ass Chipotle” and “Chipotle tastes like doo-doo” do not lend themselves to any form of dialectic.

What has burrito fans split? Why can't we eat Moe's this week and Chipotle the next? What is it about these restaurants that spawn such polarization?
